The Boys Of Summer: Øverst Race League 2016 Finale

Truth be told I can’t really tell anyone much about the race itself. I was hurtling through the lanes driving point in Lead 2, working the radio and dodging harvesting tractors with one hand on the wheel – aside from that it was run off on the sort of summer’s eve in the Vale of Belvoir that makes all seem right in the world: Cloudless, still blue skies and the very first hint of an autumnal amber glint in the setting sun’s rays along the distant ridgeline of trees and castle turrets.

I hear it was a race of attrition and mercifully devoid of crashes. Chris Cleaver of EvoVelo Racing took the honours. Bruce Johnston and Campbell Steel claimed 2nd & 3rd respectively in the charge to the line over the humpy backed bridge into Plungar.

I took a few shots before and after the race in order to document this great local race league and the efforts of all involved in making it happen, racers & organisers, and those who support it, not least the fantastic little country boozer that is the Anchor Inn…
